The GTPA will be represented by CEO, Ms Lisa McAuley in Nepal as part of a multi-faceted trip focused on supporting women entrepreneurs to trade globally as well as a session by the WTO on Gender Responsive Trade Policies: The Time is Now.
As part of the first day of the mission the GTPA along with EIF and the WTO will spend the day meeting with women entrepreneurs in Nepal as well as industry bodies specifically working to support women entrepreneurs including the Federation of Woman Entrepreneurs' Association of Nepal (FWEAN) and the SAARC Chamber of Women Entrepreneurs council (SCWEC) Nepal Chapter.
For the following two days all stakeholders will participate in the South Asian Women Development Forum (SAWDF) 2019 summit to discuss harnessing economic empowerment across the region.
During the Summit, the WTO session will emphasize the urgency for gender responsive trade policies and for synergetic efforts in unlocking trade opportunities for women entrepreneurs, among others.
The session will also be an opportunity for governments to share their experience and best practices in promoting women's participation in international trade.
Concerned stakeholders will also discuss on how to better build women's trade capacity, to improve their knowledge on accessing global markets.
Expected outcomes:
- Increased awareness about the Buenos Aires Declaration on Trade and Women’s Economic Empowerment, and the efforts underway in making trade inclusive.
- Shared knowledge on new data on specific trade related issues faced by women entrepreneurs for relevant stakeholders to focus their investment on empowering women businesses globally.
- Provided better understanding on how gender responsive trade policies are implemented by WTO Members and how they specifically target women entrepreneurs.
